Here’s a short condensed itinerary of our wine trip

  • This is a large wine growing State with grapes grown coast to coast. My recommendation is to focus on Central/Eastern WA areas like Red Mountain and Walla Walla

  • Red Mountain is about a 3 hour drive east of Seattle. Walla Walla is 5 hours but you can also fly there direct on Alaska and a case of wine flies free!

  • Spring and Fall are the best times to visit wine country here as the summers are blazing hot and winters can be cold.

WeatherEye Vineyard

What some in the State consider a “Grand Cru” vineyard site. This location in Central Washington grows grapes used by some of the top producers in the State. Perched up on Red Mountain (shown below) this vineyard has great balance of sun intensity and elevation to keep it cool.

Upsidedown Tasting Room Cle Elum

One of my favorite tasting rooms in the entire State. I always stop here on my way camping in Central Washington to have tasting flight and pick up wine for the trip. From entry level sippers, snack boards, and high end premium wines, this place has it all.

Pinto and Bilo of Rasa Vineyards

Bilo (on the right) is a Master of Wine and may have single handedly changed my opinion on Washington Cabernet. His For the Love of the Game Cab was a stunner and is included in this month’s wine offer. Thoughtful farming and wine making combine to make this killer wine.

Kobayashi Wines

This winery oozes cult status, but has the wines and friendly wine makers to back it up. Flashy labels, hard to get allocations, expensive random white wines, not my usual M.O.. However, you can help but fall in love with these elegant wines.

Red Mountain

The source of the Weathereye Vineyard, Red Mountain. Almost every serious red wine maker in the state gets grapes from in an around Red Mountain, so much so that red mountain fruit (and the name on the label) command prices unseen elsewhere in the State.

Erica Orr

Erica Orr, bad ass wine maker, also runs her own lab where she consults for many wineries in the State. She makes the best Chenin Blanc in the State but her other wines, including Grenache are great too. Did I mention the crazy value of these wines too?
