Spam Musubi

INGREDIENTS:

  • 1 can Spam

  • 3 tbsp soy sauce

  • 1 tbsp brown sugar

  • 1 cub sushi rice

  • 1 pack nori (seaweed paper)

  • fumi furikaka seasoning

    Optional

    musubi mold (you can use the Spam can as a mold as well if you open both ends)

    pineapple slices


 

INSTRUCTIONS:

  • Steam rice per instructions on bag, but generally 1 cup rice to 1.5 cup water (or up to 2 cups in some cases)

  • Drain rice and set aside

  • Cut Spam lengthwise into eight, ¼ inch slices

  • Whisk soy sauce and brown sugar together in small bowl

  • Place Spam in preheated skillet under medium heat. Get a slight sear on both sides before adding soy/sugar mixture. Allow sauce to reduce and char.

  • Remove Spam from heat

  • Assemble the musubi in the following order in the mold or Spam can.

    Place seaweed sheet at bottom of mold or under can. Add scoop of rice and pat down. Sprinkle furikake seasoning over rice. Add sliced Spam, add another scoop of rice, add more furikake seasoning, and then optionally pineapple slices.

  • Lastly wrap the seaweed wrap around the sides and top, you may need to add a little water to them to make them sticky

  • They are best served hot, but can be wrapped in plastic wrap and refrigerated
